Why Los Angeles
Los Angeles is the West Coast’s main door to the Pacific. Several trans-Pacific subsea cables land on the beaches of the South Bay, linking the city to Japan, Southeast Asia and Oceania, and downtown Los Angeles is home to some of the most interconnected carrier hotels on the West Coast. A server here reaches California, Nevada and Arizona over short routes, and it is the closest of our US locations to Asia-Pacific users.
Los Angeles is also a capital of games, film, music and streaming, and the lineup reflects those workloads: high-clock Ryzen CPUs for game servers, EPYC machines with 10 Gbps ports for streaming origins and download mirrors, the RTX 4000 SFF Ada for rendering and transcoding, and the 64 TB storage server for media libraries and backups.
Data jurisdiction. Los Angeles servers are subject to US federal law and California state law. California privacy rules such as the CCPA, as amended by the CPRA, depend on your business and your users rather than on where the server sits; this is not legal advice.

It is the closest of our US locations to them, thanks to the trans-Pacific cables that land nearby, so it works well when one server must cover both the US and Asia-Pacific. If most of your users are in Japan or Southeast Asia, a server in Tokyo or Singapore will be noticeably closer. Our latency checker shows estimates for each city you care about.
